What did you buy?
Why? When?
Post internal/external photos of it fitted please.
How reliable has it been, and what issues have you had?
I've short listed two, but want to see what/where others have fitted.
Many thanks.

I went with a Blackvue DR 650.
The main reasons I went for it were :

1. Fairly discreet and very easily removed if required
2. Don't see it from driver seat as hidden behind rear view mirror
3. Wifi and GPS built in (many have external GPS option), can download & see real time video on my phone
4. Had previous Blackvue and seemed very reliable, older ones smaller
5. Option for a 'cloud' set up, with remote access to video
6. No screen, but I didn't want one
7. 2 channel version available with rear camera

Don't have any pictures unfortunately and not home at present.
Cable easily run inside roof lining above windscreen, down inside side trim, past door and into glove box 12v socket.

There is a huge choice out there now, many cheaper than Blackvue to be honest, I do like the style and apparent quality of it though.

Just bought & fitted a NanoQ in my 987 Boxster.
Cabling run along top of screen (tucked into plastic surround) and down A-pillar (tucked into rubber seal). Hard wired into a empty fuse holer on row c in the fuse box (row C is ignition controlled)

How is it working? OK?
I noticed there were 26 pages of issues with this model at Dashcamtalk: https://dashcamtalk.com/forum/threads/nanoq-0903.1...

I believe GPS is a necessity for making the video admissable as evidence in court, just for info.

Working fine at present, not used it in the dark yet though.
I have a Mini0803 in my other car - apparently the worlds most unreliable camera. Had it at least 3 years, left in car all the time. Only issue I've had was caused by the microSD card stopping over writing the old video clips.

On the flip-side of that, I've also tried a Nextbase 412- generally excellent reviews, first one lasted 2 weeks then stopped recording/locking up. Changed under warranty, new one lasted 2 days - seriously overheating in 5mins, could barely touch it!

Im using an SJCAM 5000X (go-pro alternate), you can hardwire it in but ive got a 2m usb cable that ive run around from the rear view mirror to the head unit (have a head unit with rear usb connectivity).

Then im using a windscreen suction mount that came with it just behind the mirror. It does show just underneath the mirror but its not in my sightline sorta thing.

I could have mounted it in other locations but wanted the cable to remain hidden.

I assume fitting these invalidates any extended Porsche Warranty?

The one I'm considering just plugs into the 12v socket under (or in) the glove box. Cable routes around the dash edge and windscreen edge up to the cam. This is the one I'm thinking about: http://www.viofo.com/home/30-a119-1080p-60fps-dash...

Can't see that's any different than plugging in a car charger?

It's a new version of the A118 Techmoan likes: http://www.techmoan.com/blog/2014/10/26/the-a118-b...

As for GPS... in one of his reviews he was standing still and the GPS had him doing 20mph. Not ideal!

I don't want GPS anyhow, but note the comment about court. Will look into this...

I'm genuinely intrigued.

Been driving for 20+ years, not had to make any insurance claims.

Seems now everyone is obsessed with fitting multiple cameras so they can prove what happens if they have an incident. Or maybe just amuse themselves with posting videos of other drivers mistakes.

What's the point ?

Maybe I'm old fashioned but if something happens maybe the involved parties would do the right thing and admit their own guilt.

Last thing I would ever install.

So when criminals on the streets are taken to court and CCTV evidence used, is that only admissible if they were fitted with GPS?

I think that unlikely.

Have a look a Mobius cameras...they are small and can be installed very discreetly

I have been using two in my daily for the past couple of years they record for 10 hours every working day (64gb cards) and have been 100% reliable considering they cost around £60, I've set them up in my Cayman with great results.

See here - http://www.banggood.com/Mobius-New-Version-Wide-An...

And to make a low profile custom mount - http://www.banggood.com/Mount-holder-For-Mobius-Ac...

Hmmm.... no I'd say most who do get one fit one forward facing camera.
You've been lucky.
A great number of drivers won't admit liability and will say it's your fault when it's theirs. Especially if they're uninsured, or don't have a license.
My Merc was hit in a car park with no note left.
You're far too trusting in the current world. But as you are, you don't need to get one.

Mobius a bit too DIY for me. Swapping battery for capacitor, making mount, messy install.
I've looked at it and the JooVuu and discounted both. But they do have good reviews and picture quality.

The A119 has a smaller and neater footprint and is plug and play.

A119...good luck with it, let us know how you get on.

Something to look out for...the supplied plug-in 12v adaptors are really cheap dodgy items chances are they will fail and may take the camera with it.

I use two Anker 5000mAh USB power banks for the Porsche my other car is hardwired with 12v to 5v transformers...no problems with either.

Bought a GoPro Hero with the LCD feature a couple of years ago. Have not used it yet. The mount that came with the camera is huge. I'm looking for a simpler mount, just a suction cup with an adapter I can use to attach the camera. The regular mount feels like it takes up all the space in the cabin.

'course I have been busy and this is not a pressing issue but it is becoming more pressing. I would like to get a dash cam working in both of my cars. I'm starting to see lots more inattentive drivers and they run lights in front of me, switch lanes in front of me, and in general just do a piss poor job of driving. With a dash cam I think I can use it to show the other driver was clearly at fault in the God forbid case there's contact made.

Yes, I'm looking at an Aukey 15000 mAh power bank to run the cam when the car's parked and its power is off. Can switch the cam to 1FPS parking mode.

The DDPai Mini2 switches to this automatically when parked which I quite like, but user feedback isn't so good and the A119 from Viofo has excellent immediate support on Dashcamtalk if users have queries or firmware problems.

Very sad state of affairs.

Even if it saves you a claim is it worth the hassle? I'm guessing in your parked car example it wouldn't have been on anyway!

More paranoia than reality if you ask me. Orwell was right.

Ditto this... video quality good, install good, sensible cable lengths and ability to wire in etc... not the cheapest but feels solid and has proven to be very reliable.
