Looks like theres talk of a new royal yacht, albeit more as a floating advertisement for Britain than as a gin palace for Liz and Co, but would be nice to see stuff like this again. On my 6th birthday in 1991 I saw the old Britania in Milford Haven during part of a tall ships race tour, and my parents told me the Queen was singing happy birthday to me (and I believed them). But I just remember it as a sort of British moment, and certainly not as a waste of public money. the US has (more than once) Air Force One, would be good to game something that is internationally recognised as British again.

How fking deluded are these people who think that in a time when folk are surviving on food banks that we should gift a boat to a billionaire family and which we can use to patronisingly gain the favour of johnny foreigner. If this were an Aprils fool joke or something from the Poke it would be funny.

Whoops, anarchist alert. Hey, if all the rich people gave all their money to the poor people that would fix everything. Idiot.

You are assuming all those living on food banks actually have to. Every single person I have known who has been on benefits has had Sky, quite a lot smoked. I also seem to recall a TV Programme on food banks which discovered a fairly significant number of people they catered for didnt need the help.

I am not saying that all is rosy in the world and there may be some that need food banks, but we would do better studying their finances in great detail to see where their money is going and directing it in a better direction.

If everyone in the know is to believed, and I see no reason not to, the Royal yacht was an exceptionally effective business tool, and with Brexit we could seriously do with a replacement.

In this thread well-off people survey a small number of poor people and use it to support their opinion that everything is fine in the world.

Did anyone of you consider that Sky comes with a minimum contract length of 12-18 months? And that quite a bit can change in that time.

Bloody hell, I'm sorry I asked. rolleyes.

And sorry I'd missed the last couple of threads.

I thought it would be for the country to start looking forward in a positive way rather than the usual doom and gloom. And I agree with the posters above. It's all very well people pleading poverty, but don't do it on Facebook off your bloody iPhone.

Yes as everyone I know who has been on benefits has been on long term benefits, certainly longer than a Sky contract!

Indeed, it was a fair question to post a thread about, certainly didn't deserve kicking off world war 3. Personally I don't think it would be particularly pertinent in the 21stC, if we want to entertain foreign dignitaries we have Windsor Castle etc. I also agree that some people are gullible if they think that Britain has many people living in poverty these days. I realise they are mostly in their 20s but if they cared to look back just 50 years they'd realise why some of us older people scoff when we hear all about the hardship of not having Sky or a 52" TV.

If the only way the UK can secure decent trade deals is with a fancy boat, we're utterly fked.

Even if it's true, Germany & The Netherlands can build better ones and scoop all the deals from under us, then laugh, from the deck of their fancy yachts.

The argument that it's needed makes no sense. The argument that it would "only" cost £100 million is fantasy.
This is the Dutch Royal Yacht.

Lovely as it is, I doubt many trade deals get done on it

Ignoring the flfood bank comment, I forgot they don't actually exist and there's no such thing as poverty, do you retards think that we can rock up to a few marinas in a borrowed boat and tell these foreign governments which we are hugely reliant on, and arrogantly suggest they your our boat and give us a good deal in turn. Do you think that these foreign governments are so fking stupid and open to our utter arrogance?

I've watched my three year old try to win favour with the local 7 year olds by shouting at them "look at my my toy helicopter". That's what this boat is idea is like, only more embarrassing

A Royal yacht in the 21st Century? Shall we use horse and carts for when we venture landwards whilst demanding they become subjects of the Queen? Maybe come back with some slaves, too? It'll be just like the good ol' days!

There are a couple of foul comments on here rolleyes I think any money that may be spent on a royal yacht would be better spent on improving things like roads, schools etc etc.
