For the second time in 2 months I've been off work with vomiting, diarhea (sp.), and extreme tiredness. Only just recovering now and have hardly eaten a thing for 5 days.

I'm generally healthy, go to the gym, don't drink much, not overweight etc so how did I manage to get this again?

How are these things picked up? I travel on a packed tube every day, could this be the cause?

Making sure you wash your hands well (between the fingers and both sides) and also using liquid soap instead of a bar is sometimes the best way to avoid this type of thing. Always wash hands before you eat anything, etc.

There is a good dose of winter vomitting disease doing it's nationwide tour at present. It has closed several hospital wards up and down the country as staff and patients get infected with it.
It is air transmittable and is easily caught. If your normally fit and well then it lasts a few days and you recover ok after it, but young and old people can become seriously ill with it.
I had a bout of it in december last year just before I was due to enter hospital for an op. Pretty nasty but you'll recover after a week or so.
Good hygiene rule always help, especially with stuff like this on the go.

Hygene could be the key.... or perhaps a simple bowt of food poisoning??? Any dodgy curries recently? Is certainly what did me a few weeks ago!

I doubt it's food poisoning, it's seemed more like flu symptoms than that. I've experienced enough dodgy kebabs and curries to know the difference!

I've been fastidious about washing my hands recently due to my 3 month old child and always use liquid soap, but perhaps not so much at work. God know what people are leaving behind on tube grab-rails and seats etc etc.

The thought of this stuff making it's way onto my boots sandwich makes me want to reach for the bucket now

Apart from food poisoning a few years back, I haven't been ill since I was 11. I'm 32 now :/

I think that one's airborne. My mother had it, I spent a few hours with her soon afterwards and the next day I got it too. The D&V only lasted a few hours but I wasn't 100% for a week.

Sounds like the one that knocked us out a while back.

BabyV6 picked it up at nursery.
I spent the night in her room to keep an eye out in case she suffocated in vomit.
I got it 2 days later.
MrsV6 got it the next day.

Main symtoms cleared up after 24h but didn't feel right for a week.

go to the gym,
Excellent place to pick up germs apparently. Lots of hot sweaty people expelling lots of germs.

Think it is just the way it goes sometimes. I had 5 colds one winter season and ended up with a nasty dose of bronchitis. This year only a snotty nose that lasted two days.

Weird thing is I rarely get stomach upsets. Last time I puked up was in 1976 when I had hepatitis A. I now have a phobia about being sick. I did have the world fall out of my bottom on a holiday in Tunisia one year. Mind you they were taking people out of the hotel on stretchers with drips so two days with the Tunisian Two Steps was reasonably good.

I don't go to the gym anymore. I do go swimming but I wear a nose clip and this appears to help with keeping the colds away.
