Folks,

My right shoulder has always been a bit inflexible, and doesn't like exercises like windmills, etc which push it in a circular motion. The left shoulder seems OK on the whole.

Just recently I did the 22/22 press-up challenge which went fine, and it helped me tone up a bit, however since then I've tried to return to doing press ups and it just gets painful after about 5.

My right shoulder now feels 'crunchy' most days, particularly after swimming when I can hear it crunching and popping. Anyone have any experience with this kind of issue? I have an inkling other people I know have had similar, and it involved surgery. frown I'm 37, in good health otherwise but want to build up my upper body and this is really putting a spoke in the works!

My shoulders are dodgy from stupid climbing moves so I can sympathise with it affecting your goals.

Correct form is really important - always engage the lats to pull the shoulder down and into its socket IYSWIM. People say that the shoulders are unstable joints but to the layman that means fk all. What they mean is that if your shoulders are "up", it's really easy to injure them.

Took me about 6 months before I could lift my left arm once. hehe

Similar problems here. I've seen a physio and for me, the muscles in my right shoulder are locking up because I spend all day with my right arm extended using a mouse. Several physio sessions later it's better but still crunches when the muscles are cold. Plenty of shoulder exercises and gentle stretches as well as using a foam roller help as my thoracic spine is quite tight as well.

My knees and ankles are really loud, my shoulders as well at times

Pilates is helpful I found as it loosens up my shoulder

Physio is best place to start if you are worried

Could just be a injury and resting will fix it

Often joints are very loud and you only realise when you get pain/discomfort there, you think the cruchiness is linked to the pain, when the crunchiness was there all the time you just didnt realise until one day the joint aches and you associate the two together

Having said that joint noise is considered normal and only worth investigating when you notice pain/discomfort in the same place

OK thanks guys, it's reassuring that physio could have benefits. I really should improve my overall flexibility as it does let me down somewhat! hehe

I'm having real problems with my shoulders/upper back/neck. I have a fairly physical job that I suppose has lots of repetative movement around the shoulders.

Currently having physio sessions in which the physio reckons my posture is all to pot which is causing strain on my neck/shoulder muscles.

The treatment seems to help with releasing the tightness in the area but something just feels all wrong atm almost like my shoulders are detached from my body!

I'm lead to believe it could take months to sort out but while my pain is not agony it leaves me feeling tired and almost spaced out (I think from the tight neck)at the end of the day it also seems to get worse if I sit/drive for long periods.

Thanks all, I'll have a look at some of the self-help and get myself checked out when I'm back in the UK. Some credible diagnoses here!
