Starting problems
Discussion
Hi All, Got a few problems i'm hoping you can help me with??
Until about a month ago, as soon as I press the start button, the car would fire up immediately. Now it won't fire up straight away and takes about 8 seconds before it splutters into life. This happens when its hot and cold, so I dont think its the hot start problem, but it will stall when starting hot if i dont keep the revs up for a couple of minutes.
It's also now ticking over between 1000 and 1400rpm or where ever it feels happy, and to drive, it's lost a fair bit of grunt over the last month.
Did notice y'day that when i opened the fuel filler cap, there was a huge hissssss from the tank, not sure if it was pressure or a vacuum (wheres the breather on the cerb??)
Any ideas, i'm a bit worried about all the abuse the starter's getting at the mo, does it sound like its just gone out of tune??
Any thoughts greatly appreciated..

Used to get this all the time in my Griff. Was told by Austec that with the cerb, best to undo the filler cap a half turn when the fuel gets half empty or below.

What problems in particular was it causing you with the Griff?
Mmmm, how strange? Went out into the garage for a tinker tonight, and thought I'd try starting her up before looking for the problem and guess what?? She fired straight into action (whats that all about?)
Tried her several times, went for a spin and all ok, I think she heard me coming
Anyhow, checked fuses (a la Kojak) and all seemed ok, but did find that the coil connector (alternator side) contacts were green + corroded (all clean now)
Wonder if that was causing a problem??
