not an extra service in the Red Light District

opening the car door with the 'other' hand, to make you less like to open the door on a cyclist

I'd never heard of this before, a great idea, or what?

A nice simple idea but it'll never catch on as it would need to be ingrained from the day you started to learn to drive. It's such an automatic thing to use the hand closest to the door that to interrupt that with conscious thought would be nigh on impossible.

They do need to find a new name for it...

Yeah, i thought that was the name for where you sit on your left hand until it goes to sleep and then it feels like someone else is fiddling with you...

that's the idea

teach it in driving lessons, include it in the test

Maybe if the handles worked the other way round, so instead of pulling the lever towards you, it was away from you which is potentially more convenient when reaching across.

Nice idea though, I tend to check the mirrors first and then open normally though...
