Evans Ride It Sportive
Discussion
I've been looking around for (what I hope are beginners) social rides during the winter and have come across Ride It with Evans. They have a short one near me at the Reading store. It's 25 miles and pretty flat, so as I'm new to these I thought this would be a good one to start on.
What's the standard like on these, do you get a mix of beginners and more seasoned riders? I'd like to go along on my CX and see how much I enjoy it. I just don't want to be left way behind as ultra competitive types scream off.

My first ever group riding experience as a noob was an Evans sportive. I did the Gatwick one which was about 50 miles for the medium route.
The "standard" really doesn't matter whatsoever as everyone rides at their own pace. Inevitably you do get people forming bunches but never anything close to what you'd experience in a race in my experience. You get plenty of "experienced" riders at sportives, with expensive gear and bikes, but they tend to be the ones who have no aspiration to race or go fast. You get loads of beginners as it tends to be how people start out. Ability levels are totally mixed, there will be loads of stronger riders than you, and loads of weaker ones.

That's what I'm thinking, just go along. See how I get on and make my mind up if I like it or not. The "standard" really doesn't matter whatsoever as everyone rides at their own pace. Depending on how far you are from Windsor, my club (700CC), do beginner rides a couple of times a month. No place for hero's on these rides, it's all about getting your confidence up riding in a group, learning group etiquette, etc. The rides only tend to be circa 15-25 miles on quiet roads - if you enjoy it obviously we want you to join up!
We have a number of club rides each week, Saturday tends to have two rides - a short medium paced ride and a longer medium paced ride - both with a coffee stop. Sundays tend to have a long quick-ish ride, and a medium distance medium paced ride. There are also Wednesday 'work dodger' mid-morning rides, Thursday evening CX rides (around the local towpaths and bridleways), and the odd MTB ride over in Swinley.

I'm in Twyford so not too far from you. Might be going for a ride in Windsor this weekend with a buddy We have a number of club rides each week, Saturday tends to have two rides - a short medium paced ride and a longer medium paced ride - both with a coffee stop. I'm actually in Binfield but ride with 700 in Windsor as I like the club, there is a real good mix of members from social riders who enjoy a short spin for coffee and a natter, through to dedicated racers and just about everyone in between! The club is associated with the shop, so if you're in Windsor pop into 700 at the bottom of Peascod Street and say hi, there's usually someone in the shop who rides with the club and could give you some info - if there isn't then there's plenty of bike pron to ogle over.........
