It's all personal preference tbh, I have mine set further back than most people do with highest string rate. As for adjusting I've always found you undo/loosen one screw on the top side move the beater where you want it and tighten. Should be the same on the Mapex pedal, I have one somewhere so will double check!

I'm no drummer, but I've been in bands and roadied a fair bit. The pedal looks quite flat compared to how I've seen pedals before - is there any adjustment to shorten the chain or whatever the linkage is?

Funny. Looks like an iron cobra.

I have a iron cobra double I cant really get on with. Played with all the settings and just cannot gel with it.
