6 days of painting......
Discussion
It's taken me 5 days so far to scrape all the loose flaky paint and rust from my chassis and suspension and paint it all. :yawns:
My rear damper snapped a fortnight ago and I decided to replace all of em with a new set of Joos dampers and springs. As i've done each corner i've used a huge tin of degreaser to get the black underseal off some parts. Totally destroyed 3 wire brushes and knackered one of me good chisels,
Gave everything I can see 2 heavy coats of Grey Smoothrite, and done the ARB, steering arms and driveshafts in Black.
Also yesterday, while the front drivers side was apart, decided it was as good a time as any to replace the hose for the power steering thats been leaking. What a bugger that is to get to, let me tell you. wrapped new hose in new heat shield mat too. Refil with new Dextron III fluid and bled. Cool, no leak.
Done passenger front today, and noticed another coolant leak on heater pipe. just needed a new hose clip. Cool, no leak.
Used 1l of Gunk, 1½l of Smoothrite, 3 paint brushes and nearly a box of latex gloves.
My painting arm has had it, I'm gonna leave the Waxoyl for a couple of weeks, just until all the cuts on my knuckles heal, and I get the paint off the back of my head.
But at the end of the day, (or 6) I'm really satisfied with the result. Just need to get out now and see what my new dampers feel like.

Top effort sir, a highly commendable act.
please let me know how you find your shocks, as mine is currently undergoing Joos shock replacement program. I can't wait to test the improvement. My o/s/f was spewing like the amoco cadiz, so there will be a massive improvement.
When u gonna give it a test?
cheers,
Cooky

ok guys, finished today.....
went out for a test
, taking it very easy for now. I left the height of the springs how Joolz set em for now. Car sits about 1/2" lower all round. I'm happy for it to sit at this height but it looks like I have a bit of -ve camber on the front.
Joolz, u reckon I need to get the geometry sorted or should it be ok?
O/S/F tyre rubs a bit on full lock right now, didn't before!!
Currently got all four on 5 clicks off soft, which is a little stiffer than what it used to be and the whole car feels different.
I've yet to push it round the bends, but so far I'm very impressed.
I'll have a fiddle over the next few outings (oo-er!!) but I may be giving you a call soon Joolz, for some setup advise.
Thanks
Bud

adiandvic said:IIRC Austec charge £350 (ish, I dont recall the exact figure). Their treatment is more expensive than other places, but they give the chassis the full monty. Steel brushing, hammerite painting, waxoyling, following which they dress up as witch doctors and chant all night long to bring both the chassis and owner good luck, so all in all well worth the money
out of intererst how much did Austec charge you for cleaning up the chasis and repainting etc
