This morning I started my Cayman S up and the engine immediately had a bad audible knock and the car was shaking vigorously (as if the engine was fighting to stay alive). This lasted about 10 seconds or so before the engine smoothed out, the sound disappeared and then I drove off my path as normal.

I've since done about 25 miles with no issues or oddities but any ideas on what might have caused this?

I've had the car a few years and it gets used every day and in all weathers so although the weather was 6°C today I am use to starting the car in minus figures and I've never had the issue.

The only thing I can think of is I recently had the car serviced at OPC and they may have put the wrong oil in it, so now the weather is getting a bit colder its showing.

I had an issue on my 997 turbo with the variocam soleniod not working properly. From what I understand the variable valve timing is done via oil flow and the soleniod controls this. Mine was stuck open so had longer duration even at idle making it run like a bag of spanners.

Sorted it quickly so no harm done.

Might be a similar issue?
