There is a brilliant website somewhere where a guy responds to these scam emails and winds them up something rotten. The email exchanges are hilarious. Now where did I see it ? Anyone ?

Chris, don't go there, it's a scam.

They give you a stolen cheque for more than the value of your car supposedly written by the company owing them money and you pay them the difference and give them your car to late discover the cheque is stolen. Yet earlier in the message they say they'll pay be sterling bankers draft.

The latter would be OK but you must always wait for a bankers draft to clear into your account (contrary to popular belief they're aren't instant), only a transfer is instant.

My guess is even a draft if that transpired would also be a forgery. I've had several of these messages over the past couple of years and they are all the same old story and justifying why they'd give you a cheque from a third party looking for you to give them back a cheque for the difference.

One things for sure, they're not interested in your car. To them it may as well be a tin of beans!

Post a message in General Gassing with the title "Warning - Scammer (and their e-mail address)" and paste in teh message as you have here.

I kept one on the hook for a while and eventually negotiated that I'd only sell to the purchaser face to face and he said he'd send an agent and I arranged a time and .......gave the postal address of New Scotland Yard

NS Yard, Broadway, London SW1H OBG (Tel. 020 7230 1212)

I had about 3 of these when I advertised my S3.
Although if spotted they can be good fun to read, but it also makes you a bit nervous when you have a genuine interest email with crap spelling and grammar.

Same guy eh, surely he'd be behind bamboo poles back in Zim by now? IIRC you sent me all 100 of his almost identical poorly crafted emails once
