Booked in for a service (2003 with 15k) and asked them to look at a stiff clutch. Bought the car from Reading OPC (used) and had it serviced there.

I was informed the clutch was gone, what a shock at 15K, and the clutch has been stiff from when I purchased with 9.5k on the clock.

Here is the shocker, the replaed my cluth free of charge with no hassle, none! At first they said it was a non war but the would check with sales and see if they would cover, and yes.

So, must give the dealer credit for standing behind a car they sold me a year ago.

I thought I was in for a big fight and a big bill, what a relief.

Good news - the least they could do in my opinion, but it does show that there is some honour at your local OPC.

Result!

See! Contrary to popular belief, OPCs aren't spawned from the Dick Turpin Business School...

It also gave them the excuse to replace the RMS at the same time. A good result for you there!

This is most reassuring. Having sold my Elise 111S, a 3 year old 996 is an option that could be on the cards.

Depends on the age, but in the region of £750 for a 996 C2 I think...

Phew,

They really earned their £10k margin on the car then. Next they will be applying for charity status..

I'm sensing some anger, here, Kamal!

What did they do to you to make you so angry about 996s?

I bought my 996 for £37k from a Porsche specialist with a no quibble 6000mile EVERYTHING covered warranty. I spoke to the previous owner. He had been offered £34k by the supplying OPC and got £35k from the specialist. The specialist applied a very fair £2k margin. The same OPC that offered the chap £34k had exactly the same spec and age car up for £44k and offered me £500 off-£9.5k margin!!! and £7k more than the specialist! Other Porsche dealers also had similar cars for similar prices.

What really galled me was that the original owner had paid an OPC £50k for the car 18 months previously and the same outfit were now offereing him £34k PLUS he had spent £2k in service and repair fees over the 14k miles that he covered in 18 months PLUS he had Porsche finance who also scr^%&ed him!

Is Porsche still the most profitable car company in the world these days?

So you're upset because they are a business?

If you dont like the numbers, haggle.

If you still dont like them, sell privately.

We all make our money some way or another. With main dealers, its not hard to guess how they do it

You pay for the convienience. Some ppl coudlnt care less about the few bob, some could, they shop elsewhere.. lots dont.

Well I guess they have to make a living.

I still think I did the right thing buying from a dealer with a Porsche warranty.... As I have said before at least if it blows up and they refuse to pay out then I can set fire to it outside their premises and invite the motoring media to film it.....

Anyone had a clutch replaced on a GT3 and prepared to share with us how much it was to have done?

Very true, but there's profiting and profiteering. There's running a business and there's taking the p155.

Its a market economy I guess and as long as there are gulible punters......

The original story sums the whole thing up really though....the so called inspection and reconditioning of the vehicle-which alledgedly makes the £10k margin justifiable-is...well...c$ap. The car had a heavy clutch since delivery and so was worn. Shouldnt it have been sorted prior to delivery? Similarly, when I was looking for a 996 I went to the main agents. Some of the cars were not really that great. Just tarted. One had really poor paintwork to one side.

Haggle with a Porsche dealer..absolute waste of time...they just give you more cr^p about the warranty and N1 tyres (worth a max of £1300 on a 996 if you found one without warranty and bald tyres!)

Thank god there are some reputable specialists out there who are realistic with their prices and honour their warranty commitments.

depends if its a comfort or clubsport - for clubsport I think you're talking about £800 parts and 6 hrs labour.

Perhaps that undercover reporter will bust OPC's like he did YES car credit on BBC1 last night.
