Hypothyroid treatment private healthcare
Discussion
Been searching around various thyroid sites and trying to find something that will help. I have been on Levothroxine for 3 years now and every single time I get the blood test done at my GP's office, usually every 6 months, I come in under the "normal" range. For this entire 3 years they have never once adjusted my treated from the 25mcg Levothyroxne dose. My last blood test was a few months ago and it was done on the fly as I had went to the GP about my insomnia. Insomnia that has only began since my thyroid problem started. I will wake up every few hours non stop night after night and some nights I lay awake for hours. They won't give me drugs for sleeping. I'm drained non stop and it affects every single aspect of my life. According to doctors, insomnia etc is part of living with hypothroidism. Anyway, on that last blood test I had taken my T4 tablet as usual at about 6am and test was at 9.30am and still results come in under what is supposed normal. I've asked them to up the dose but talking to a wall.
I'm at the point where we are looking at going private to get treated. According to the Thyroid UK charity, T4 is next to useless and the TSH test is very old and does not take all the other thyroid hormones into consideration n or does it consider the adrenal glands.
I'm asking if anybody here has experience of this condition and if maybe going private would be the best option.

I am on 100 MG, get a callback once a year and they check the dose is still current, to be honest, been wondering whether I am perhaps on too high a dose as have lost a bit of weight and got a bit fitter, not sure if it works like that but have had a few sleepless nights but was thinking it perhaps cranked my metabolism up a bit further.
Sorry but I've not got time to post a considered polite reply - just wanted to say stop f-king around and get it sorted. If you can afford to see a private phlebotomist, go do it and even better if they'll put your tests through the NHS centres so they come back on official NHS paper. Then take them to your GP and say you want referral to an endocrinologist. If they say no, make an appointment with a different doctor until you find one that will. Even better, go see a private endo and once you're sorted drop back onto the NHS for the free drugs & blood tests.
/end thread.
ETA: your doctor sounds like a douche. "Insomnia is part of hypothyroidism" my arse. Don't put up with it. The days of GPs offering advice on things they're not ACTUALLY qualified to know about are over. Any good modern GP will happily refer you to an expert.
