I’ve been looking at driver training days again and have come up with a detailed offer of another track training day at Millbrook Proving Ground.

This one will be different to last time (apart from being £200 cheaper!) in that the steering pad will be wetted this time for drift training sessions and the session times will be shifted around a bit so it’s not quite as quick-fire.

The day will be just for us, although there might be a couple of vehicles being tested elsewhere on the facility.

The day will be split down into sessions on various areas, you will be able to choose which area you want to drive on.
Instruction will be 1 to 1 and dataloggers will be available to measure and chart progress.

Millbrook Proving Ground is located near Ampthill in Bedfordshire.
Map: www.millbrook.co.uk/newsite/map1.pdf

The areas we will be able to use are as follows;

Steering Pad - Unlike last year, the steering pad can now be flooded. This means we can have sessions of drifting in the wet.

Outer Handling Circuit - Mini race circuit, slightly larger in width than a typical sprint track.

Hill Route - A series of three graded loops simulating an alpine pass. It's a one-way road so you can use it for practising 'Continental' motoring or develop appropriate lines for race/track.

High Speed Bowl -Check the straight line stability of your car and achieve its top speed.

Mile Straight - High speed acceleration alternative gear changing techiques such as heel & toe and double de-clutching.

The price will be £275 - £295 and we will need somewhere around a dozen to 20 of us.

Is anybody interested ?
Owen.

I would be interested.

What is Millbrook like for run off? One of the things that put me off driving at the owners day next weekend is the wall around some parts of the track.

The drift sessions sound entertaining.

It's different on the different tracks. The outer handling is mostly surrounded with grass, the hill route is armco'd almost entirely. If you want to throw the car around until it lets go, it's best to do it on the steering pad. The tracks are both very entertaining and the 'lack' of run off shouldn't put you off. As long as you keep listening to the instructor, there is no need to worry!
