Am I expecting too much of plod? (Another one)
Discussion
I had my car stolen from outside my house last wednesday night. I catch the train to work so didn't notice it stolen until my girlfriend came home at lunchtime. I reported it to the local police station soon after. Since then, I've had 1 message passed on that the car has been recovered, other than that I've heard nothing. I've been in touch with the garage who are holding it, they say forensics inspected the vehicle last friday and it would normally have been released back to me immediately after - not this time though. I've made 3 attempts to get in touch with the officer dealing with it, and am yet to have a call returned. Am I expecting to much that, as the 'victim' of the crime, somebody might talk to me? I can at least know if, or when, I can have my property back, or even if I can't have it back? Just a courtesy call so I know what's going on would be nice. Am I being unreasonable?

When my car turned up, no-one ever got back to me. I saw it in Autotrader, the insurance company had been informed, but the police never bothered to inform me.
I tried to chase it up, as we had had some other things stolen at the same time which were very important to my wife, and I hoped that the car turning up might allow the police to chase up the other things.
Net result, no response to a single one of my calls. Not ever.
I know of at least 5 occassions when officers in charge of particular vehicle recovery cases have used the car themselves to 'smoke' around in for a few days. A friend of mine had his M3 stolen, two days after it was recovered he saw it doing doughnuts in the high street, case PC and desk sargeant in the front seats! What is the world coming to?

Completely fabricated bollox! Do you expect anyone here to believe that???
It's as true as I'm sat here! Another PC video'd it and submitted it to a Max Power competition. It came fourth. There was a full investigation, but as usual it got burried under the carpet.

This is TWOC.
If you had reported this incident, then the two officers involved would have been arrested.
Normally when stolen vehicles are found, they are recovered by a garage on the back of a truck so that no evidence of a forensic nature is lost.
I very much doubt that what you daw was what you have posted here.
let me see! Career in the Police and maintenance of personal liberty or a ride in a BMW?

Forgive me, could you expand TWOC?

Even if I had had to visit them and cut the heads off myself. The complaint would have gone to the head of Scotland Yard if I there had been anything other than a completely satisfactory response from the lower ranks.
Oli.
Donuts in the high st.....

When you join up you get told to treat property like dynamite (I am sure that stands for something too but cant remember that far back!), it gets locked away and not played with etc etc. If you mess about with stolen property you are going to spend time in one of the county hotels...

I know of 1 occasion where this has happened. It occurred when a Corvette Stingray being driven by a local pain in the arse was stopped and the pain in the arse was arrested for DD. Two shift officers decided to drive the Corvette back to the nick rather than let the Traffic officers who assisted in stopping the car do it. When the convoy of vehicles got to the nick, the Corvette took off down the road as the arrested driver was being walked into the front door of the nick. He complained, unfortunately for the two officers concerned, they stuck it in a ditch in some road works close to the nick on the return part of their TWOC!
The Police driver in the Corvette lost his job over it although the drivers mother who owned the car decided that she did not want to prosecute for the offence as the Police paid for the damage and recovery. The officer in the passenger seat was disciplined in a draconian manner!
This happened in the early 1980's
Since then I have been involved in many hundreds of cases of vehicle recovery and of all sorts of vehicles ranging from scrappers to top class performance cars. To date this is the only example of Police officers doing such a stupid thing that I have come across or even heard about. That is in the last 24 years!
For you to have come across at least 5 is quite incredible.

Simon i'll be sending you the bill for a new shirt, having just sprayed coffee all over this one! You really need to get out the office more!
Glad to see the more sensible PHers don't believe this utter load of bollox. Perhaps you want to take the piss out of my car like you did with Mingo when he had the audacity to say something you didn't like? Or better still, please give us just three of the occasions you 'know of'?
Best you totter back to the office where you can speak to your yes-men and ponder sales figures and stuff like that. Now, where's that lovely stolen TVR that i saw in the yard......i fancy a spin.....
