Forgive me if there is another existing thread, but yesterday I was at Tesco's at Winnall, Winchester. I was looking for the smoked gammon joints but couldn't find them so asked two members of staff. They looked at each other, and then asked what gammon was. Neither had any idea at all. I am sure you have better stories of incompetence, so let's hear them please.

Talking over insurance for my classic caravan on the telephone with the insurance rep'. I was told that in the case of theft 'market value' would be the sum of insurance. I asked how the market value was worked out or arrived at, she confessed in not knowing!! Jeeeezzzz was it to much to ask, really. laugh
And this from a major insurance company.

Few years ago I drew up right outside the door of a Tesco Metro on yellow lines and sent my 7yr old daughter in with some change to pick up some bread sauce for the roast. Told her to just ask an assistant as she wasn't sure what she was supposed to be getting.

She came out with peanut butter !!

To be fair it could be a drink, a powdered drink, a cereal bar or a packet of cereal so could be in multiple different isles.

I made the mistake of asking if they had Tahini in my local Asda.

Silly mistake.

Why don't you look harder next time instead of coming on here to moan it's not difficult is it.

What do you expect? them to know every single product in the store.

Its either going to be in with the bacon and sausages or meat joints.

Nobbers like you are the reason why I'm glad im out of retail.

rolleyes

In a similar vein, in Sainsbury's Badshot Lea, I was looking for some pancetta, couldn't find it so asked someone where it is, their reply "it's with all the other cheeses". FFS!

And there was I thinking that staff were there to give service. Silly me! I had actually looked strangely enough and they had changed the aisle and placement. It wasn't where it used to be nor where I thought it might be so erroneously I asked. But no knowing where it is is one thing; not knowing what it is is another.

I feel your pain. I asked a local supermarket oik where I might find the quails eggs. Can you believe that he didn't know? I only hope that my taxes aren't subsidising these minimum wage peasants somehow...

I don't think he was necessarily talking about the fact that they didn't know where the gammon was, more the fact they didn't know what gammon was. My 11 year old son and 9 year old daughter know.

When I first started at Tesco a lovely Polish lady asked me where something was.

I couldn't understand her that well, so she spelt it out to me.

p o l i s h

Ah I know where the polish is I said and took her to the cleaning products.

Soon realised she wanted the Polish food selection!

I worked on the till at Waitrose and quickly realised I had no idea what different potatoes were or all the other weird loose fruit and veg they used to sell.

When you're 17, you don't know the difference between a Charlotte and a New potato, or what a kumquat is.

I would regularly get withering looks from customers as I desperately hunted down the 4-digit code from the laminated photo guide. "No, those are KING EDWARDS!"

I was once in Waitrose and couldn't find the Findus Crispy Pancakes, Potato Waffles or Kestrel Lager.

I asked a young lady called Aurelia but she looked at me funny so I left.

Worst shop ever

I accidentally bought some Tesco value sandwich "chicken" the other month.

It was Pink with yellow dots:

I was not brave enough to eat it!
