PUBLISHING: End of the road for car magazine as sales plummetAN automobile magazine is closing down – putting 11 staff jobs at risk.
Emap's REVS magazine, which is based at Media House, in Lynch Wood, Peterborough, will no longer be published after a steady decline in sales.
The gloomy news has been broken to the journalists, who hope to join its sister title, Max Power, rather than be made redundant.
Genevieve Potter, an Emap spokeswoman, said: "This is a sad time for those who worked for the magazine, but they all understand why this had to happen.
"We are very optimistic that we will be able to appoint the employees elsewhere in the company."
The magazine specialises in car mechanics.
Ms Potter said: "It was no longer feasible to keep the magazine going because its sales had steadily declined.
"However, Max Power's sales are top in the industry – so it will not be difficult for any of the people affected to apply for similar roles elsewhere in the company.
"The magazine has been on sale since 1996 and we are very sad to see it go, but now the single focus has to go on Max Power."

Its a tough old game magazines.... when it works you can make a packet (as seen by the backers of EVO), but if you aint pulling in the numbers then the publisher will pull it....
Hard game and suprising that more motoring magazines havent gone. We have a proliferation of speciality ones now (Yugo Fan and Skoda Sport coming soon next to Fast Ford and Merc Enthusiast!). Still, shame to see it go but its a tough old game....

A stat that I heard bandied around at the weekend that seems incredible is the Max Power has a circulation of over 300,000 per month!
IIRC its well over a Million, maybe two a month. Its the highest selliong monthly by miles.
A million? - nowhere near ... maybe 250,000-275,000.
If it's 2mill that's 1 in every 30 people buying Max Power - I don't think so.

I’m amazed that there 4 mainstream Land Rover titles still in circulation.
^ its not like the magazines didn't see the internet coming though.
most of the magazine journalists i knew were totally savvy with the online scene back in the 90s. they were all there when the internet started.
however, many publishing companies have refused to acknowledge the internet and its power. bit like the music industry.
