Sports Cats (100 cell)
Discussion
A few questions about 100 cell cats:
1) Anybody tried these on a 993 turbo?
2) I heard that they don't last as long as the standard cats, anyone confirm/experience this?
3) I presume that an ECU remap is needed to take advantage of the extra flow/less back pressure, is this true?
4) Is there a big increase in sound? If not is the sound good without booming inside?

I've just had a set of 100cell cats made for my 993TT (taking the standard cat piping and modifying it with lower restriction inlet and outlet cones (to and from the cat) and with new cat matrix welded in).
They've only just been fitted and the car isn't mapped yet (a trip to 9m is on the cards as I also fitted new turbos etc.)
Noise is a bit more but not enormously so (it already has sports silencers). No booming from inside and so far no check engine light (touch wood).

I've had a set of Techart 100 cell race cats + Tubi sports silencers on my '97 993TT for around 4 years now and can report no problems with CEL so far with no ECU mods. They sound fantastic with no cabin resonance and the turbos deinitely spool up earlier.
Steve - I'm considering K24's etc and would be keen on any info you have if you wouldn't mind dropping me a line - cheers!

Just seen this; was on my hols when the thread was originally posted.
I had the 100 cell cats on mine replaced under warranty a few weeks after I got the car. The cats were 18 months old, the RH one was totally knackered (and kept triggering the CEL) and the LH one was nearly buggered too. Each cat cost ~£1k plus VAT and fitting.
They were replaced through the OPC and were sent to Tech 9 in Liverpool, I spoke with them about any possible problems in the future. Their reply was that sports cats don't last as long as the OEM items. They reckoned 20k miles was about their limit. My dead cats had not done this amount of miles, though the previous owner drove it across to Europe lots, particilarly Eastern Europe. So if poor quality petrol had been used it may have quickened their demise.
It defo sounds a bit meatier with them on, and the turbos do spool up quicker also as said.

Steve, who did the work on your cats and, if I may ask, what was the cost?
My car periodically triggers the CEL on bank 2 (I assume the right cylinder bank) with a code of P0430 which translates to "Catalyst system efficiency below threshold" or something similar. At MOT time the right tailpipe (so the bank 1 cat) gets checked and it's super clean. The car has 52K miles. So should I:
1. replace the cats
2. replace the O2 sensors
3. just reset the light when it appears
4. none of the above
