SU carb tuning - anyone have a vacuum gauge?
Discussion
This is a bit of a long shot but does anyone have a Vacuum gauge we could borrow next week for tuning a triple SU carb set up?
My trusted mechanic knows how to set these up but has long since lost his vacuum gauges after a garage fire in the 90's (hopefully the fire was nothing to do with his carb' tuning activities I probably should ask him about that!)
We are trying to fine tune a 6 cylinder Jag running triple SU carbs next week.
Any help much appreciated - its not the sort of thing you can buy from EuroCarParts.

Just use a length of rubber tube as a stethoscope to compare each carburettor inlet flow rate - it's surprisingly accurate.
Or construct a manometer using a U-tube of transparent plastic tubing containing a bit of dyed water, fastened to a graduated backboard. It's not rocket surgery.

Ask at your local motorbike shop; bikes are still generally multiple carbs or multiple throttle bodies.
Cheap vacuum gauges are less than £50 online, but most decent workshops will have a digital set which they will lend out for a large credit-card deposit and a case of beer.
thanks for this idea will give it a go rather do this than make something up from scratch.Cheap vacuum gauges are less than £50 online, but most decent workshops will have a digital set which they will lend out for a large credit-card deposit and a case of beer.
Or buy one of these https://www.amazon.co.uk/STE-BK-Synchrometer-ITCBK...
I have used one on my Daimler SP250 and helped a friend with his triple SU E-Type. It works well. Make sure you get the right adaptor to fit the carb throat.
