Teenage Insurance and Lease Cars

Hi all,
My oldest will be starting driving lessons soon and I am currently researching/contemplating a small, low insurance car I could get him.
I have been looking at a variety of cars such as the VW Up etc and getting some insurance quotes.
The cheapest insurance requires a black box which although not ideal, looks like the only way to get decent priced insurance i.e. c.£1.5k with a black box Vs c.£3k without a black box, for the same car.
During this process, I noticed some good lease deals on these small cars but when I tried to get an insurance quote, none of the black box insurers would quote for it.
On confused.com, I ran a quote for exactly the same car, the only difference being that on one quote, I said we would own the car and on the other, that it was a lease car. The first quote came back as normal with a mixture of black box insurance and normal insurance, the lease car quote came back with no black box insurers, only normal insurance at £3k+
Has anyone else done this and faced a similar issue ?
