Following on from the Le Mans electrical problems I have now started the removal of the old fuse and relay unit. To be replaced by a modern Focus one. Wish me luck.

first stage done. Old fuse board now out and all wires cut and labelled. Some strange and rubbish connections in there furious no wonder there were some issues.

Not sure if I should take the dash out now and sort the lot out in one, or fit the new fuse/relay box and make sure the car still works then take the dash out ..... ahhh decisions decisions

I've been there, and I predict a fair few face/palm moments if you find yours is wired up the way mine was.

If you and sort the dash wiring out be sure to have a sizeable bin ready for all the spare wires you take out!. It is worth adding some more sensible earth wiring though, the existing earths are a bit marginal and a break in one earth can have mysterious effects.

You're a brave man Mick!!

Personally, I'd want to put away the ends at the box first to make sure you haven't removed something you shouldn't and all still operates ok as you say. If you remove the dash and a cable breaks inside the sheath say, then it just adds to the headache and time on the multimeter.

Good luck.
