Should there be anything attached to the dash top stop the front facia moving at the top ?

Mine had a small block of wood, 7cm long and 2cm x 2cm stuck down with a type of resin. Just made it more awkward to get the top back on really.

It would be at the far right of the dash top shown in your photo. There's no length of foam strip there either, which sits against the top of the instrument fascia.

Rich (Sheel's ) car had the wood too Daz, positioned a few mm back but just enough to support the dash face.

I don't have a photo but mine was approx above the rev counter when fitted. It just adds rigidity to the instrument face.

Ah, I found a loose block of wood under mine when I first took it off a few years ago. That explains it.

Thought it was just a free gift courtesy of our friendly TVR builders.
