I love these old castrol films, some of the comments are classic
"a pretty little wren" etc
I see that nice Mr savundra was taking part.

I remember when i was probably about 10 so 1970 ish BBC 2 would often run one of the cowes powerboat races, I remember some of the boats Surfury, News of the World and I think a Don Shead boat with someone on board with a broken leg.

Brilliant stuff, you can almost hear the cups and saucers rattling down below, nice to see no high vis, and collars and ties worn while racing

Some great shots, I especially loved the shots of the camera planes flying in formation with the fleet.

Didn't like that aft steering position on lucky moppy!

Some, indeed a few from the first race in '61 survive with more being restored.

Seeing Lord Lucan taking part reminded me, a friend used to work with Lucan's son George Bingham, one really good game was to ring the switchboard "Hello XYZ Bank"
"Can I speak to George Bingham please"
"Who shall I say is calling?"
"It's his Father"
