Can someone please advise
Discussion
I have been offered a job and i will have to go through the employer screening and security check. It will be done by third party company , this offer is subject to the satisfactory risk free referencing of all of the following checks
- Media Search
- Sanction List
- Financial Probity: (last 5 years)
- Address Check: Checks your 5 year proof of address against the electoral roll or
address databases.
- Basic Criminality
- Eligibility to Work in the UK
- Employment/Education History: A 5 year check of your career history including
periods of unemployment, self-employment or gaps in career history.
- ID Check
- Professional Qualifications/Memberships
- International criminal background check via jurisdictional court data
- Academic Qualifications: A direct approach to the awarding educational institution to
verify your qualifications
I think this sort of screening would take few weeks. I don't have any criminal record, nothing wrong with references and the address history is all good.
I don't want to give my current employer reference at this stage because 1) they don't know if i am looking for a new opportunity 2) what if something comes up in the screening process and employer withdraw my offer? I will be out of job..., don't know how to handle this......i can provide all previous references plus a letter from my current company saying i have been working here from this date to this date. Would this be enough?
Would my current employer know that agency is conducting reference on behalf of my new employer xyz, because they have made an offer or it will come thorugh as a natural screening like letting agency screening?
My other concern is verifying Academic qualifications, my degree was from south Asian country and it always take time to verify any degree from the south Asian universities there because they don't have a degree verification departments like UK. I do have all my transcripts with me and i can provide the University address. (I will contact the university next week and will try to get hold of someone who can guide me on this)
any advice would be helpful.

Hi.
Almost all employment offers are made subject to references.
Actually in your list I can't see where they ask for a reference from your current employer.
Phone them ask them the timing of the actual current employer reference. We usually do ours after the individual has recieved an offer and has resigned their current role.

I have just gone through this (twice) including having an education from a different country to the job role. However, I am in the US so may not be exactly the same.
References, I gave them 2. One that was contactable and one I asked them not to contact. They did not contact either, just confirmed their existence.
My education caused some delay on the first run through. It added about a week to the process to confirm that I had a degree and that it was equivalent. They called my university who were very helpful in explaining the merits of an English education. The second time I forewarned them of the challenge and so they started the education check first and it did not delay the process at all.
I had to go through this process twice because I changed job in February this year and in my first week I was approached to move to another company starting in August. The first role was in the pharmaceutical industry and the second in finance. Both industries are excessively cautious so should give some indication of what you should expect.

We have to put our staff through this kind of thing a fair bit (not to get the job in the first place).
Usually takes only a couple of weeks.
