My V8 is a bit loud (getmecoat and hand in my PH badge) and I was thinking about putting some sound proofing mats in.
The noise is mostly from the rear so if I add some pads to the inside of the doors, the inside of the rear arches and boot floor and maybe the floor (but as it's not a daily by any stretch, I'm looking for a quick, no hassle job) do you think it'd make a noticeable difference?
Do you need to completely cover any metal or is strips sufficient? The mats on eBay seem to be 200mm wide x 500mm long and you get 10.
Thanks

You will need a lot of sound proofing to make much difference in my experience. All of that costs money and adds weight.
If it is exhaust noise more than road noise, I would localise it to the areas closest to the exhaust first.
It will only make the wind noise more noticable.......

Tbf I nearly always have the roof down so that's not much of a problem smile

Why is it loud? Why not just put a proper exhaust on it?

I'd have to have one specially made and it's not used enough to warrant the expense tbh.

I take we talking about the Cougar...?

Is the exhaust stock or modded...?

If not stock a repro stock system from the US isn't going to be more expensive than a custom made one from the UK, which will still likely be louder.....
If it is just exhaust noise, then adding sound deadening isn't going to make much difference, if its a non-stock exhaust.
Doesn't mean to say putting Dynamat around inside the panels etc., isn't a good idea anyway.

Yes it can work well. Depends when you put it.
Normal underlay from carpet shop works well.
Dynamat is good but there are some good copys to save cash out there. Then it depends on how much you what to use. Some put it every where but some time just a little on a door panal can help a lot.

I'll give it a go. A stock exhaust would be the ultimate answer but tbh I can't really justify the expense and hassle for the amount I use the car.
Thanks for replys

But what isn't stock about the exhaust...?

The whole system, just a muffler change, aftermarket headers etc....?

It might just need a muffler swap....not exactly bank balance breaking.

TBH, apart from being stainless steel and aftermarket headers I don't really know.

Aahhh.......the headers could well be the issue then. Headers, especially if thin wall, do add significant exhaust noise.

But, as I said, it may be just a muffler swap needed. If's it been custom made in UK by a non-yank specialist, then the muffler tone will likely be cack and could be the issue. A set of mellow-tone US mufflers installed into the system might be all that's needed.
I can't immediately think of anywhere in your area to suggest to help.

Edit: You're not a million miles away from Buckland Automotive, worth taking it to see Adrian and see if a simple muffler swap to something like an old fashioned pair of glass-packs or Smithy's might do the trick.
