Ok lets get real, I suppose your talking about the 1955 Le Mans disaster, a tragic event which your comments are a insult to the families/organizers/drivers who were involved.
The only reason the event continued was because the organizers were worried cancelling it would cause chaos and block the path for the ambulances / safety crew - far from your point "life was less valued in the 70's".

Technology has moved forward and we now understand certain dangers that we didn't once know. Your comment is fair that a crash would generally be far more serious - hence the spectators greater cause of concern - although accidents/deaths do still happen today and you can never tell from the impact how serious it will be. The days of rushing to help seem far gone, im not sure if its a pride thing, jealously or concerns of being sued for just trying to help. Dont worry cmoose - I would still try to help you after an accident if I could

Wow, weren't those Beetles strong?

Amazing that so many people just got out after multiple rollovers - often through the windscreen. Not sure that the occupant(s) of the one that caught fire did so, though.
