F***ing Potholes.....

Coming down the road at 25 mph only to go through what I though was a small puddle, THUD, turned out to be a half foot deep pothole where contractors for Anglian Water hadn't resurfaced properly after having dug the road up.
Chim cut out and rolled to a halt, refused to start and had to be loaded onto a truck to Offords, looks like the shock has shorted out the immobiliser circuit. Why can't people just do the job properly in the first place? Don't even know if theres chassis damage yet so just have to wait and hear back from them. Can be damned sure Anglian Water will be paying every penny of whatever bill I'm presented with though..

Trouble is it was Anglian Water who arranged the works so the Highways Dept aren't admitting any liability. I've got some details for Anglian so will try firing a claim off to them as soon as I receive my bill from Offords. If that doesn't work then next stop the council...
Why does the flat bed always turn up at school kicking out itme though? Nothing worse than your p&j being loaded whilst hundreds of sneering brats are walking past laughing.

Bad? This hole was over 7" deep and a metre square!!!
I don't mind the odd pothole but this was positively dangerous...
So much so the council actually forced Anglian to send someone out to sit by it until a repair could be done/hole coned off.

It matters not who did the work - the council are responsible for the upkeep and maintainance of all roads
I would check that quite carefully before making a claim. The council are unlikely to be responsible for unadopted roads, and IIRC the Highways Agency is responsible for a number of roads including motorways...
Sorry to hear the news Zippee (and in your case, it does sound like a council-maintained road) - good luck with the repairs and getting the money back...

Did you check it wasn't just the fuel pump trip behind the glovebox 
The council have formulas for the size/depth of hole as to whether its a payout pothole or not
or so I was told, and I think it has to have been reported before or summat - I got nowhere after trying to claim for a bent alloy and back axle (Corrado) after clipping a kerbstone someone had kindly dug out of the pavement and left in the gutter on a left-hand bend 
Bet you get nowhere with claiming but best of luck anyway!

7"!?!?? good lord, that is terrifying - imagine if a 'biker had the misfortune to come across it?
had similar experiences myself in the past but nothing this extreme, ie no damage, just a bloody awful jarring experience in the car.
nowadays, it means i avoid at all costs any part of the road that seems to have a hole, especially if water covered, meaning one can't judge possible depth.
unfortunately - especially around here - this means i spend my time driving in a slalom style ...

Sue the council, they are responsible for maintaining the roads and ensuring that all works is carried by contractors / utilities etc...is in accordance with HAUC and the NR&SWA. The tolerance on a road surface is +/- 6mm athough i believe they will get away with a hole of -30mm in court.

My point exactly, on speaking to the highways dept initially they said it had already been reported to them that morning and they in turn had reported it to Anglian. I took a number of pics on my mobile but can't work out how to e-mail these so if someone wants me to send them via text and host a couple of them let me know! The deepest part of the hole was also in the centre of the road with a flat edge so no chance of just rolling in and out.

Sorry to hear about this, I have a bumper-grounding speed hump / pothole combo to negotiate every morning. If that bumper ever needs replacing, I know who will be getting the bill.
On the subject of the photo's, I've got a bluetooth dongle that means I can transfer pics from the phone to pc. If you like you can text them to me, and I'll transfer and host on fotango...pm me if you like.

Good news is they paid up very promptly without argument.
