Anyone care to hazard a guess as to what the NZ resale values of kit cars like the Ultima and the like would be...

Just I'm eyeing up a ~45 ft yacht as an alternative!!!

Cheers,
Pete

Depends on the kit car you're referring to.

Classing Ultimas as kit cars is misleading. They are component racecars for the road as most of the vehicle is bespoke, not robbed off a 1989 Sierra!

Anyway, to answer your question, how long is a piece of string? To sell an Ultima in NZ could be a lengthy process as the market would be miniscule, plus they are very expensive (even though they are astonishing value for money).

Personally, if and when I get an Ultima it would be for the long term as nothing I have experienced comes close to it.

I agree.

It's not so much a matter of market value as market liquidity.

To the right person at the right time the value would be there, but in a quick sale you'd take a bath.

When I imported my XTR² I assumed that if I needed a quick sale I'd probably lose 50-60% . . . maybe more on a bad day

Pete if no luck you could always advertise a swap, seen this done many times before. You just never know, am not referring to the one your eying up but someone else could be in the same situ as you.

Then again, I could always park the Ulti on the back of the boat and use it to power it... hehehe 500bhp yacht...

sounds like your after launch, not a sail boat! We often go out on a 45ft Bayliner and got to say its neat being able to go somewhere quick and park up on the sheltered side of Waiheke Well am sure you know what your up to.

Good luck

Don't forget the lovely people at the LTSA and their 200 vehicle per year limit- I believe that the Ultima is excluded from being imported by this, or Jamie would be rolling in one already!

And here in NZ your market for that sort of thing is miniscule. People don't recognise the brand or the car in general, and if they do have the money, tend to go for something common and boring. Like a Holden.

Ultima only produce 75 cars a year.

True, unlike the market for Skylines and their ilk...

Ha, well, most of the Ultimas have a Chevy (Holden) engine anyway...

The ONLY reason I haven't bought an Ultima yet is that I've just taken on board a HUGE mortgage and still have to spend money on a barn, house extension, ride-on mower, tractor, chainsaw ( ) etc etc.

Ah, you Englishmen still have something to learn...

In NZ we just stick a goat on a chain to mow our lawns!!!

Yeah, but you can be arrested (quite rightly) for riding a goat naked at midnight around a paddock with a beer in your hand and another in it's 'drinks holder'!

Anyway, you're missing the point. Ride-on mowers are fun, chain-saws are fun, tractors are fun. Anything which has some sort of internal combustion engine is FUN! Then there's driving your WRX around the paddock sideways like you're Colin McRae - now that really is fun with a capital F!

HOWEVER, I WILL GET AN ULTIMA!
one day....

Is that the Aussie one that was in the Targa? Bugger. The Simmons mags look nice too, not a bling as the factory items.

Yeah, that's another of my grumble points with the Ultima... so I'll use a set of these, a bit cheaper too!
