I've just had a post come up on my Facebook feed in a 'Free Items' group complaining about users reselling things they've picked up for free from the group. Personally, I think that's a great idea and fair play to those who are making money where others couldn't be bothered.

What are your thoughts?

I'd be annoyed if I gifted something to someone hoping they could make use of something I don't have any use for anymore.

If someone took advantage of me being in a decent enough position to give away things to those that are perceived as needing them, not cool man.

But once it's not yours any more, your interest in it is irrelevant.

I dont like it. It's because people tend to put up posts such as 'just moved into a new place, I've got nothing to my name, could anyone help me'

It's not that someone's got one over on me, or had the balls to do something I didnt. It's the bit where I went out of my way to try and help and you didnt actually need it for what you said. Knowing that upfront would have influenced whether I gave you my old sofa to try and help you out

I think it deopends. If there is avlue but they cannot be bothered then fair enough. If they gave somehting to help, then its a bit off to then sell it on for a profit. Perhaps it should have been given away. When our museum is given theings we make it clear they become ours and we will act in the best way for the museum. Which might be to put them on display, but might also be to give away for education of even to sell or scrap

This was on one of those benefits prawn TV shows not too long ago - one woman's way of making a bit of extra cash was to browse all the freecycle type groups to get what people were giving away then trying to sell it on at a car boot sale.
In a way I'm fine with it - there's no way I'm going to go through the hassle of selling to the great unwashed for the sake of £25 so I may as well just give it away, but for others that £25 means a fair chunk of money so if they can get it then good luck to them.

This. It actually diverts stuff from the people on Freecycle, Facebook etc who actually need it.

I think if you're giving something away you have to accept that - rightly or wrongly - there are people out there who will manipulate the system and 'game' it. I disagree with it, I think it's getting something for free under false pretences but there are those who wouldn't think twice about doing it unfortunately.

Finding something thats listed on freecycle and selling it on is fine, the person obviusly just wants rid and doesnt care how or to who.

However saying something like "I've just moved home and have nothing to my name, can anyone gift anything" and then selling it on is different and not on in my book.
