I have taken a fancy to a Navitimer 01 Black dial and black calf leather strap, retail price is £6220. I know the mechanism is different, but are these worth paying the premium over a Navitimer World? Am I also right in thinking that these will not hold value as well as a Rolex Sub Date? Are discounts possible on these watches?

Everything else being equal I wouldn't buy the Navi over the World just because of the movement, the £ premium just isn't worth it IMO. I would choose the Navi over the World for other reasons though, namely that I prefer the size of the smaller Navi, the associated history and I prefer the looks.

As for the purchase price you should be able to haggle something off though you could do worse than either have a look on Iconicwatches or contact Dom Hackett of hackettwatches.com for a good deal. Don't expect it to hold its value like a stainless steel sports Rolex though, especially in today's climate.

I've recently achieved a pretty good discount on a Navitimer. I was a returning customer though. I love mine.

Good luck

Thanks. My Sub date is a bi metallic steel gold, I was considering part exchanging it but can't bear to part with it! I had it for nine years and was offered what I paid for it in 2007 - £4250.

I think I prefer the smaller dial Brietling but will probably go for the World with black leather strap. Just need to justify the expense to myself but it would mean I can rest the sub from daily use for a while smile

Try and keep the Sub date whilst getting the Navi, I regret chopping watches in (especially the Rolex GMT II a bought for £1800!) as I would have had a reasonable collection by now if I hadn't, well 3-4 decent watches anyway.

I would get a second hand one rather than part exchange for new, you can a get a mint Navitimer with a new strap + B & P for around 3-3.5k

I am going to keep an eye out for pre owned Navi 01, there's one at Mark Worthington jewellers (I think he is an AD) for just under £4500, it's 3 years old. It's got a steel bracelet (yuk) that I could change to black calf leather for £170. Food for thought!

I did think my sub date is worth more than the offer.

I've usually noticed that bracelets sell for more than leather straps. Is the extra £170 for the bracelet AND the strap? If not, I would consider that very cheeky, and would take the bracelet and strap and sell the former privately.

May not be your taste but a genuine bracelet will be worth money to someone.

Has anyone come across Heritage Watches? This is a broker who advertises on EBay and gets his stock from ADs. He has a beautiful unworn 2016 Navitmer 01 for £4300 which seems incredibly cheap. I have exchanged emails, this watch has full 5 year Brietling warranty and I am sorely tempted. It's just the colour and strap that I would go for.

I have a 1967 Navitimer 806 and whilst I struggle to read the time on it these days! (My eyes, not the watch) It's still a joy to wear and keeps time perfectly. It was a wedding gift from my step father and I have all of the paperwork right down to the original till receipt for about £29! My step dad worked for DeHavilland and bought it on a weekend trip to St. Hillier. He said that all of the test pilots wore them and the engineers aspired to them so he saved up and bought his whilst on holiday.

Parkhouse and Wyatt have a GMT, that is listed as 2nd hand, but most of the Breitlings they have listed are ex display not true 2nd hand, for £4750
