Forward air controllers also train there , i wonder if one of them got there sums wrong and blown up?

Doubt it. Sounds like they were using the range without aircraft with soldiers on the ground firing live rounds at targets whilst moving rather than on a normal range.

Although having been at RAF Tain for a day I wouldn't fancy running about too much in case of unexploded ordnance!
