Harmon Kardon AGW replacement/repair

Morning, I have had the Comand 'no sound' problem on my 2007 W216 CL500. It has been diagnosed as a faulty Audio Gateway (AGW) unit. I have been quoted circa £1400 for a new unit with 'exchange' of my old one.

I have spoken to BBA Reman who can repair it but need to disassemble the head unit as well as the AGW and send it to them as they do not work on vehicles.

Does anyone have any experience with this problem and have any other solutions? I am unsure if this part is interchangeable with the equivalent S Class unit which seem to make up the bulk of used offerings on the internet. Many thanks.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but I had a similar issue on my mother-in-law's W211 E class. Did quite a bit of research but could not find a way to avoid paying the sort of money you have been quoted. Might be a different situation in your car but in hers it was a non viable repair given the age/condition of the car. Having no sound now does however give her plenty of opportunity to listen to the whining transmission, the groaning power steering and the clunking rear suspension while she waits for the SBC to give up!!!

There are a bunch of audio hardware repair shops around Benztown, i.e. Stuttgart.
I guess they'd be cheaper than the offer you got locally in the UK. I could get you some contact details for those.

Further just had a look in German gumtree for you, found an AGW for HK logic 7 from a W221, part no A 221 870 1589 for 600 EUR.
Should work in a W216 as well.
