My Tyres will sell you a steel wheel and tyre combination for relatively little outlay. There are a million other suppliers, too. Tyreleader are also good.

You will be surprised how much lighter steel wheels are than your giant alloys and how much better your car rides on them.

You might be onto something here.

The definitive answer is in German here: http://www.mercedes-benz.de/content/germany/mpc/mp...

So far as I can tell, the w212 E250 CDI will take wheels in 7J x 16 Et 38 (but perhaps not in certain trims) and 7.5J x 16 ET 45.5.

However, it seems MB never offered a steel wheel for the w212, even if it did offer lots of more sensibly fixed alloy wheels.

Have a look on here:

Some of the alloys are reasonably priced.
Steel wheels tend to stop at 16".

I got a set of Mercedes alloys 7.5J x 16 ET 45.5 for my S212 220 CDI with Michelin winter tyres. Very quiet and comfy.

These ones

Last year I bought via eBay.de a set of the 18" W218 wheels . They came with Continental winter tyres and had about 6 or 7mm tread all round and I paid £430 delivered. There seem to be a lot of dealers of used wheels on German eBay, -: I bought my father in law a set for his A6 all road with tyres for a similar price. It was a no brainier vs steels, they look good and are OEM.

Search for "w212 winterreifen" - lots for about 400eur plus shipping. My CLS was climbing snow covered hills passing lots of stuck Mercs and bmws like it was 4wd.
