Driving to a client's this morning, minding my own business, I got t-boned by a guy in a Mondeo, turning straight into me. I'm Captain Cautious on the bike and in the car, but I really didn't see this one coming - no sign at all.
He was waiting in the central marked section of the road to turn right (from his side), and moved straight out just as I passed him. Bloody frightening. How the hell he didn't see me I have no idea.
He took out the front wing, bent the A pillar, trashed the driver's door and, where he pushed me up the kerb, bent the suspension. Not bad going as my old Beirut Taxi's pretty solid - thank goodness.
A biker who'd been waiting at the junction stopped and offered himself as a witness, and as he was giving me his details, a police officer appeared as well and took charge of things.
Good job he did. The guy who hit me was a Polish lad who's come over to work in the UK, and his English wasn't great (but a whole lot better than our combined Polish!). There was a bit of a panic when it seemed he wasn't insured, but after two hours at the local nick and a lot of phone calls and faxes (and a LOT of initiative from the Hoccifer), turns out he was through his company.
He sorted everything out patiently and couldn't have done a better job. Turned out he'd been on Traffic with some mates of mine as well. I'll be writing to Thames Valley to say a big "thanks".
I suspect the car's totalled, but I'm just glad I wasn't on the bike... Doesn't really bear thinking about. Been shaking on and off all day. Nasty.

Just outside Curbridge in Thames Valley's area. Dripping with irony, it's about 200m from where the camera van usually sits!
The letter to the Chief Constable saying "thanks" is already in the post... least I could do. Would the officer who dealt be allowed to accept a bottle as a rather more tangible "thank you"?
