Hi all,

I am toying with the idea of a 15 plate Range Rover Vogue Autobiography. I have had various high powered coupes/sports cars (RS7, M6, 911 Turbo etc) and am coming to the point of just being bored of it, and not really having the capability or opportunity to utilise the power on offer. Most my time is spent sat in traffic commuting in and out of Manchester and the idea of having a 4 x 4 with all the refinement and luxury you could wish for seems the better option, specially in these winter months.

My one concern with a RR is the steal-ability factor. Just spoken to the insurance company who won't insure me without a tracker due to how often they get stolen in their words! I live in a pretty decent area (Cheshire), house is on a busyish road with street lighting and we have electric gates, CCTV, security lights etc. Despite this the insurance company have put me off a little bit!? In addition a friend who lives around the corner recently got broken into and an RS6 stolen off his driveway....this is possibly less of a factor as he had zero security, single glazed windows, keys left on display downstairs etc so it was a bit more inviting to a would be criminal than I would anticipate mine to be, it is more the insurance companies stance on it but combined with this.

Whilst on one hand I don't want to let the dregs of society determine what I can/can't choose to buy with my hard earned money due to their propensity to help themselves to it, it has given me a bit of doubt in my mind. Anyone been in the same boat, any owners living in fear of having theirs nicked or do I just get a tracker and get on with it? confused

These are pretty good for stopping key cloning thefts by making the programming module "Disappear"

I thought LR had solved the problem that allowed thieves to programme a new key once they got entry to the vehicle. They changed the module so that it could not be used to programme a new key. This means that if you lose your key(s) LR have to fit a whole new module in the vehicle (at their cost). You need to ensure that the module in your new MY15 RR has been upgraded. I'd check with the dealer before you make any decisions.

Not heard about many RRs being stolen in Cheshire (down south yes)

I'd be much happier (from a security position) having a RR on my drive than something like a Golf R.

As mentioned above if you have incontrol - it's possible to 'track' the vechile - however it doesn't give the same protection in terms of notification if the car is moved without the fob being inside it.

Insisting on a tracker is pretty std request now.

Insurers accept InControl as equivalent to an independent Tracker.

I'd try some different insurance companies. Last few cars I've had insured through Pace Ward have not needed trackers. I thought they were a thing of the past, with the in car apps we now have. Also the fact that any thief that can program a key onsite is quite likely to have invested in a tracker jammer for about £15 off ebay.
