What, no history!!
Discussion
I am considering buying a Porsche 944 S2 (127k miles). The car I am looking at has been bought by an independent Porsche specialist from an insurance company with some superficial front end damage and no service history. The damage extends to the front panel and wings only and has not affected the bonnet or the main structural front members of the car. Despite the lack of service history, the car is in good mechanical order and the interior and exterior are in good condition. It would not take a great deal to bring the car back up to a high standard.
The car will have a full report on its condition including a compression test to check for any internal engine wear. This will be followed by a full service with all chains, sprockets, belts (and all the other usual S2 suspects) changed and repairs to all other warn items (brakes, bushes, etc) done in one go to bring the car back in line.
Apart from the lack of service history which I intend to get around with the mechanical overhaul of the car at the start, what are the other factors I should consider? Are there any implications when I come to insure the car? Although I intend to keep the car for a couple of years at least, will I have trouble selling it? Has anyone any experience of going down this route?

I would say as long as the purchase price is right & any repairs are to a high standard then it should be ok.
The damage plus lack of history will put off a large proportion of buyers, so the price needs to reflect this to prevent you 'catching a cold' come resale time.
I personally would consider buying one, but it would need to be a lot cheaper than a nice original car.
