What's it called? Women who have fake fashion speak but with a grating tone to the voice that buggers up their vocal chords?

Could you live with one of those?

vocal fry.

Can't say it's on my list of things I care a lot about. Apparently super bad for your larynx though.

Well, you learn something every day.

Geeneral Gassing's an odd place to be educated about that though.

Have we got a "vocal affectations" board? If not, the Lounge.

Wow, I just went down a YT rabbit hole learning about "vocal fry" which I'd never even noticed existed before.

Who knew?

Not me, clearly.

Eh? The "newbie" has corrected you on the fact that you have posted this tosh (something that has been discussed here before, with its own thread IIRC) in the wrong sub-forum. This area is for car related talk; this topic should be in The Lounge. A member of your status should know his way around these parts by now, 'selections' or otherwise...

I first noticed it ages ago but I didn't realise it was called "vocal fry". I always just thought of it as the "cute but narcissistic Californian girl accent".

Or somebody's a condescending fool. I reckon that's you. I've never heard of the lounge but I've noticed plenty of fools on here and you're one of them.

Feck me, is that what it's called? I once worked with a Californian girl who talked like that, like, all the time. In the end I just couldn't go anywhere near her for fear of punching her into next week.

Yes, it really grates. On tv tonight, the girl spoke naturally until she felt she had to perform. It was really weird, as if her subconscious had kicked in. Personally I hate it, grrr, lol.

Could a guy live with it?

Just looked this up on Youtube - women who do it are 'seen by their peers as educated, urban orientated, and upwardly mobile'.

There really is no hope is there. paperbag
