Chinese History, 1850 to 1950.

Has anyone got any Book recommendations to break into Chinese History from the mid Victorian period through to the mid 20th Century; i.e. the fall of the Qing Dynasty, the Warlord Period, the Chiang administration and the rise of Mao-ism.

It's a few years since I read it but doesn't Wild Swans start well before the second world war?
