Didn't go that route in the end but, when considering it, did think about a Laminova unit let into or mounted just above the flat body panel immediately ahead of the radiator - there is considerable height available under the mid-point of the bonnet just there and it's in proximity to coolant hoses.

I did eventually use that space but for a conventional air-cooled matrix plumbed from a sandwich plate so can confirm the oil plumbing can be done readily enough.

Myself and Simon( sardonicus ) have gone for Modine cooler which looks just like a take off plate, a very tidy solution

What leads you to think you need an oil cooler?

I was chatting with a MG V8 specialist recently and he can't understand why TVR chose not to use an oil cooler?

TVR chose to use them in later cars, and when your running over 500 horsepower in a FI chimaera its a no brainer

Driven properly even on the road on a warm day these cars need an oil cooler those oil temps can rise quite rapidly when pushed

An oil to water cooler will also aid in warming up the oil more quickly.

Thats the kiddy wink the wide version too, and like Searider states faster oil warm up also .... bonus, for anyone with these fitted what you will find is far more stable oil pressure too because you dont get the fluctuating oil temps, I dont use the heater bypass loop I run an independent one so the cooler gets an unrestricted one with no interference from the heater matrix loop varying temps (heater fan on or off etc) ..................... wink thats talcum powder by the way I was chasing a small oil weep from the valley gasket area

I've just bought a new seal from Burtons for my cooler but it looks too small in both diameter and depth, it sits flush with the metal groove and is tight to get on, is yours the same ?

So what sort of temperatures are we talking?

Reason I ask is that David Vizard the famous engine tuner claims, in one of his books, that running with low water temp and high oil temp can be good for extra HP. Taking the oil up to 99*C is good for 5HP and pulling the water temp down to 77*C is good for a further 6 or 7HP

Suspect Rich's car has the potential to go even higher gven the turbos he's using but mine at low boost on a single ball bearing GT35 was getting the oil to over 120deg C when pushed on warm days.... with the cooler this summer on much more boost, was typically maxxing at 105 (and returning to 90ish very quickly when off the pedal). A good esther based synthetic oil should handle 140 and even more ok but the extra headroom a cooler provides is worth the plumbing and clutter in my view
