Probably a wiper wheel box/cable problem; a jumper?

I feel like i am almost there....to have a Cerb with proper functioning wipers.

I bouight the stronger and better wiper motor from tvrparts. It looks really good. After fitting it, the wipers stil didn't function properly. I bought new wheel boxes and fitted them today. The motor swipes the wipers as strong as an ox at the first swipe. However, when it sweeps back, and the blades give their normal resistance, it starts to rattle.

From what i have googled it could be that this is a cable jumper and the wheelboxes should be adjusted. Isn't it strange that it sipes strongly the first time and then jumps over when it swipes back?

Sometimes the teeth on the rack do not engage correctly and the wiper box requires adjustment as detailed below.

Yes....that is what I also found. I just found it strange that it pulls strongly to 1 side, but jumps when it is going to the other side.

I wonder if the wiper box isn't adjusted properly that when the rack is on the push stroke and under compression that it might bow slightly and jump the odd tooth on the wiper box gear. On the pull stroke the rack would be under tension and therefore not exhibit the same problem.

Just a thought?

I had a similar problem and found that the springs inside the wiper arms were corroded and seized, causing too much pressure on the screen. Maybe worth checking!

Does the gearbox itself judder, or is it the wipers?

Before you remove all of the skin from your hands again, take the wipers themselves off and press the wash/wipe button to get a single swipe backwards and forwards with no weight on the wiper pivots themselves.

If it still judders you'll know it's related to the drive of the motor/gearbox/cable. If it's smooth, it's related to the wipers and friction/drag. This could be as simple as having some old, dirty wiper blades, but it could also be related to the drive mechanism.

As another thought, if you cleaned/wiped all of the grease of the spindle/cable before threading it back in reapply it liberally and make sure that the guide for the spindle/cable is done up tightly.

I did take the wipers off the windscreen and it functioned smoothly. It is drive cable and wheel box. I suspect the cable has too much play.
