Amazon fireTV stick connecting

My setup is old Panasonic LED TV that only has iPlayer as catch up option. Also Blu-ray player and Panasonic PVR. All coonected through Sony amp which feeds Hi-fi speakers.
I have bought a fireTV stick to enable more catchup options on this TV.
Am I better connecting the stick directly to hdmi on the TV, or should I plug it into hdmi on the amp? Is one or other going to be more reliable? If I plug into the TV, will the amp 'see' the stick and use the speakers?

Other hdmi devices are auto detected when turned on and grab the attention of the TV. Other than turning on and off at the mains, I assume that the FireTV stick will always be live, so how would it be switched to be the source? Using amp controls? which I haven't really touched.

Firesticks come with a USB cord and a mains USB power supply. If you have a USB socket on the TV you can try the Firestick power lead in that to see if it delivers enough juice.
If so, stick will fire up (hah!) when the TV is turned on. If not, you'll have to use the mains plug or an adjacent USB socket.
Does HDMI on the amp provide video pass-through to the TV?
Anyway, plugged a Firestick into the back of my Samsung, and used one of the USB sockets on the back for power. All is good.

OK, I was assuming that you had other sources (Sky, DVD, game console, AppleTV etc) connected via the amp, with the amp connected to the TV by HDMI. If you do it that, then you change source using the amp control. Your assumption is correct, but the Blu-ray and PVR grab the focus when turned on so I haven't really used the amp remote.
fireTV stick plugged into amp, works a treat. hdmi outputs individually selectable via the amp remote, so all works fine.
However, now have TV, amp and fireTV remotes as a minimum to watch catch up, but cheaper than a new TV.
