390/420SE cars
Discussion
Swerving away from the other thread about NCK engines, I wonder if it'd be possible to get a handle on where the 390/420SEs are now? I think all the 350SEs (pale imitators
) are accounted for but with only 103 390/420s made it'd be nice to have some sort of record (register?) of them (let's leave the Car Club out of it
).
If you study photos of the 390 through its production run you can see how it went from being a 350 shell to almost-a-400. The factory called them Series 1 and 2 but I don't think it's as clear-cut as that since the body styling was amended a few times.
Post-1988 cars are invariably 'Series 2' with the OZ 5-spokes and 400SE-style airdam but the cars before that have an assorted array of wheelarch flares, sills, wings and airdams, chin spoilers, radiator slats etc.
My September 1987 car is about as late an S1 as you can get; it has the full arch flares, 'proper' rear underwing, the longer front airdam yet retains 350i-pattern wheels albeit in wider sizes.
So come on: who's got what, and when was it built?

I started something like this quite a while back.
My apologies, I'd clearly forgotten that (assuming I saw it, I was off the forum for a while). Not sure I have any decent or recent pics of my own car, let's see... nope, just this one, probably taken 2005:
I took a couple once I'd fitted the 'SE' pattern wheels but my camera seems to move the point of focus as it takes the pic so they're too blurred to use. That'll teach me to buy a 'refurbished' camera from Fuji...

Wedg1e; I did have yours in the count. The problem is that probably a few have changed hands and everyone I had didn't necessarily visit this forum, some I simply logged from the ones being advertised over the months. It was/is always going to be difficult getting the accurate numbers, as I say I got to approx 29 (390's) which would make them quite rare.
thanks to all the kind contributors to my nck engine thread, both here and on the facebook group, i collected a list of contributors and their cars and engine numbers, just to help me work out what my engine was, either 390 or 400, quite a few of the contributors were for 400se cars not 390se/420se cars but happy to post the list if it helps, am sure no one who contributed would mine since they posted the info for me in the first place?

Didn't realise no two were the same
, did TVR just use whatever bodywork they had lying around for the 390?!
Mines late '88 and flares alround

Could of been destined to be a 450SE but was fitted with a 3.9 as no 4.5 were available...???

Be nice in the Wedge calendar but without the scrubbed out plate..After all the calendars are only bought by Wedge owners and enthusiasts.
