To save opening another thread for the same topic, I have changed the title of this one. Questioned inspired by Beano....

Children 'terrified' by Marmite ads

Adverts featuring a giant blob of Marmite spread left children "terrified" and having nightmares, it has emerged.

The TV commercials centre around a large brown "amorphous" object described as reminiscent of the monster from the 1950s science fiction film The Blob.

In one advert, a couple are seen running away from the blob before the woman, realising what it is, smiles and goes towards it.

A crowd of people are then shown either running from the blob or diving into it.

The second advert is similar but includes a man with a cheese sandwich who dives into the blob.

Both commercials end with the Marmite slogan "You either love it or hate it".

Six viewers lodged complaints with the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) about the commercials.

They said the adverts had caused "distress" among their children, who were aged two and three, after being broadcast around programmes aimed at youngsters.

The advertising watchdog said: "All the viewers said that their children had been terrified by the advertisements; four said their children refused to watch television after seeing it and a further two said their children had nightmares as a result."

The Broadcast Advertising Clearance Centre (BACC), which vets commercials prior to them going out, defended its decision not to impose restrictions on when the Marmite adverts could be shown, arguing that the commercials featured "very mild horror that was clearly over the top and comical".

So six complaints....

Off with the advertisers heads

In my day there were always things on the telly to scare you.....

....I mean think how scarey those bloomin' Humphreys could be - unseen beings taking the milk from right under your nose?!...

...and if the telly wasn't scaring you your parents were scaring you, about locking you up or that something was going to get you, to get you to behave!

Indeed.

My parents used to threaten my brother by saying that if he was naughty they would sell him to Mr Patel at the market on saturday morning

this is in no way intended as a racist remark before someone gets it into their head that it is. We are talking about 20-25 years ago here

Spiders

Dr Who

The dark.

Though my sister was terrified of buttons. I used to keep one especially to chase her with when she got too cheeky.

Indeed, but unfortunately it appears that you now need to, even on PH some people have posted something seemingly innocent and have been slated for it

Daleks most certainly.

Also big spiders (still not over-fond of them now!)

The canes that my dad used to use for his sweet peas in the garden..... (I once broke the kitchen window whilst kicking a football around, despite my dad - who was planting his sweet peas at the time - telling me numerous times to stop.... so I got the sweet pea cane across the back of my legs!)

I wasn't even born 25 years ago!

My parents used to threaten me with the orphanage, smack (not the drug kind) and locking me in the cellar where the Boogieman could get me used to scare the crap out of me (though they never did).

I do believe that my twisted personality stems from this metal torture when I was a child.

I was terrified by being kidnapped by strangers! Stranger Danger and all that bumpf was drummed into me hugely. Amazingly (and totally truthfully) it actually almost happened when I was about 11!!

I seem to remember nightmare on elmstreet really really scaring me!
