I got marrried last June, but have still to change my drivers licence over to my married name (due to being uncomfortable sending the original marriage certificate to them). Would I be in trouble if stopped by BiB?

Do I need to get my arse into gear and get it sorted?

Nope, not at all, just don't trust Royal Mail with my marriage certificate.

DVLA FAQ said:

3. How long have I got to inform you of these changes?

The replacement should be applied for as soon as possible. A fine of £1,000 may be imposed for failing to notify changes

So a possible thousand sheets to you maam.

Basically I would advise that you engage gear posteriorwards.

Why not use the Post Office document checking service? www.dvla.gov.uk/drivers/po_check.htm

Assuming that this service is not available for the transaction, which may well be the case according to the above.

As advised elsewhere if you don't trust Royal Mail use Special Delivery. You get a track & trace type service and delivery by noon next day for £3.75. That includes insurance which I would suggest covers you for expense incurred in getting replacement documents.

DO NOT let the local PO counter fob you off with Recorded Delivery. All that happens is that the envelope goes into the normal mail and if it gets to the other end then a signature is requested. The compensation offered in case of loss will as much a a book of stamps.

Hope that helps.

Why Bother? I believe that you can "retain" your Maiden name if you so wish. Then wait until You change address and change then.

If you've got a paper license now they'll charge you to change to a plastic picture one.

Gits.

I've already got a plastic picture one, which I had when I moved house 2 years ago.

Hehe, still got paper one, need to change address on it. Had a bad road accident in car the day I moved so kept all correspondence to old house (parents), just to keep things simple. You know what the police and DVLA etc etc are like. If I'd changed address, I'd have had letters asking god knows what and things not going though computer (crap) systems working out all the crap for my claim etc etc... would probably decide I wasn't insured as address was wrong or something stupid.

Not bloody paying for a plastic one though, fookers, whats all my road tax and other tax tax tax for if not for a piece of bloody plastic.

DVLA can keep it the damn robbing fooks.

Why do we bother with these sh*t heads in government who just expect we pay twice for their fooked up system?

Rant over

As mentioned earlier, use the PO document checking service. MrsV6 did this for the same reasons as you; pick a quiet time and you can be in & out in a few minutes.

Don't need to change it on marriage if you don't want to. I kept my maiden name for work and on several other official docs too and it never caused any problems...and before you all start cynics...15 years and counting!!

There is a dvla office in Nottingham Mrs F. You can get it sorted over the counter (Paging Vixpy1 !) if you are worried about losing your docs.

That don't guarantee they won't lose the document!

You can have it copied and certified as a copy, your bank or solicitor can do this for you.

As long as the insurance is still in your maiden name you should be ok.
