Lloyds - Lost Safety Deposit Box
Discussion
Hello,
I am looking for some advice regarding our safety deposit box that Lloyds are unable to locate.
Has anybody been in this situation before?
I have tried numerous times to contact the branch manager at Lloyds Edgbaston, sometimes I have go through to give account details but still they cannot locate anything.
We pay a fixed fee twice a year for this service.
I'm really not too sure what to do in this situation, I have already logged a complaint with their Executive Complaints team who said they will look into it but that was a few days ago and I am yet to hear back.
Thanks

I don't work for Lloyds, but another Bank.
A client of mine lost a box, they'd completely forgot about it!, and as a Bank we'd rationalised were they were held, in the intervening 20 years..... So had moved it to another branch. It was eventually located.
Could it have been moved perhaps?

Thanks for the replies guys.
I'm pretty sure the box has been relocated as the last time we saw it, we had to call in advance (cannot remember the notice period) and pay a courier fee.
Something tells me that it is in Scotland somewhere as part of a rationalisation of the service.
I have ran out of reference numbers to provide, there has to be some method of tracking the movements of these boxes!!

I wonder what happens if a box is lost - really lost. Does the bank compensate the box owner? and if so how much?A client of mine lost a box, they'd completely forgot about it!, and as a Bank we'd rationalised were they were held, in the intervening 20 years..... Most banks gave up safe storage some years ago and
"Lloyds withdrew from offering safe custody to new customers in 2011/12, but have continued to provide a service, albeit shrinking, to existing customers."
Are safety deposit boxes insured?
"Most Banks offer no insurance for the contents of your box. Always make sure your insurance policy is adequate to cover the contents of the box: don’t under insure."

Depends on the terms of contract - i.e. the small print.
My bet is the contract says something along the lines, "We will make reasonable efforts to keep your stuff safe but at the end of the day we provide storage, not insurance. Only you the customer know the value of your stored items and you should arrange insurance as you see fit. Our liability for failure to store your items safely is limited to repayment of the storage charges you have paid."
