Help Needed Please...

Only trouble is, the speedo doesn’t work so I can’t tell how fast (or slow) I’m going! I know I’m going quite fast by how quickly all the other cars on the road turn to really tiny dots in the rear-view mirror!! Only trouble is, with all the speed cameras all over the place, I really do need to know what speed I’m doing otherwise I’ll be losing my licence!

Please can someone advise me on typical revs at the following speeds so I can avoid getting any points on my lovely sparkly clean licence!

30 mph
40 mph
50 mph
60 mph
70 mph

I know it’s not an exact science, but at least I can aim to keep the revs down below the average and hopefully be about the right speed.

The problems with the speedo are almost certainly due to a dodgy transducer. It is a common problem (my car has had 3) and if you have borrowed the car from a dealer they should fit a new one straight away. It is of course illegal to drive a car with no speedo.

As a rough guide 2000 rpm in 3rd gear is 31mph. (At least it is in my car).

Thanks Paul.

I've notified the dealer and am just waiting for a time slot from them to get it fixed - in the meantime, I'm stuck with having to make the best of it and not do anything silly! I drive about a lot with my job - my Griff is my daily run about so the Tuscan is filling that role at the moment - hence the need to get an idea of revs etc while I'm waiting for the problem to be fixed.

Do you have/could you borrow a Road Angel or other GPS-based device? Most of these include a speedo funtion.

Of course, as unrepentant suggests, the best thing (and which would keep you within the law) would be to get it sorted...

but thats no fun. and no help whatsoever if youre following me cos we'll both just end up banned/ wrapped round a tree/ out of fuel/ broken down and on the back of a recov truck.

sometimes i do a heady 34mph, crazy cat that i am...

It takes about 20 mintes to fit the transducer so dont take any bull about it being a long job. And they'll have done it loads of times.

OK - so on available info I just need to make sure I'm going slower than anything else on the road Great

It's hard to tell what speed you're going at 'cos the car just feels so comfortable. I know where I am with my Griff but the Tuscan's a completely different beast!
