sent wrong item query from Ebay
Discussion
Wanted some wheels for my T6 and found some on eBay in stock. Questioned the seller and checked feedback etc. Said they were for my T6 and I was having them sprayed by a pro painter for a photo shoot and could he get them delivered next day. He agreed and wheels were sent as arranged. Sprayed as arranged and I picked them up took to tyre fitters and had tyres fitted. Took to garage next day to have fitted and coilover ride height adjusted and alignment set up but when they put wheels up it was obvious holes didn't line up and rung painter and he looked at boxes and they sent 5x112 instead of 5x120.
Rung seller and told him I was not happy and out of pocket by an additional £300 over the wheel price. He said he was away and left 'a.n.other' to send and they had f*cked up. He says he will swap wheels but can't do anything about the £300
I am going to see him tomorrow face to face...
Have I any legal leverage to press him to compensate ?
As addition the wheels came slightly damaged my painter said but as being painted he said no point telling me and the centre caps 3 match and 1 is off a different type !

I have to agree with Dan M5 here, it is the fitters IE you responsibility to check that the parts / items are the correct for the application before fitting them.
I do feel for you are you are in a sticky situation as i am sure they guy may not want them back after you have painted them.
I can see both sides here and hope you can come to some sort of arrangement that you are both happy with.

You should of checked fitment before you did anything. You're 100% at fault.
100% this.You ordered some stuff.
A simple dropped b
k meant the wrong stuff was sent.A simple check at that stage would have seen the right stuff swapped, no problem at all.
BUT... that simple check wasn't made.
You then modified the stuff that was sent, meaning it can't be re-stocked.
You FINALLY checked... and are complaining about the costs arising from your failure to check before you incurred those costs.
Sorry OP, but you are on the hook for this - you shouldn't have pressed ahead with refinishing and tyre fitment before checking the wheels fitted. Its a simple mistake to make but your out of pocket expenses are not the suppliers problem, they're down to you.
What I would do is keep the 'wrong' wheels exactly as they are and try and sell them on yourself, whilst buying another 'correct' set to get the original job done. I would be looking to press the supplier for a worthwhile 'goodwill' discount on the new set and be grateful for anything they offer, understanding that they aren't obligated to help in any way. Perhaps you could negotiate the new set at cost on the basis that you have already paid the 'margin' in the first set and see what the supplier says.
Crappy thing to happen but I am afraid there is a lesson here and you aren't alone. Most of us have learnt this lesson the hard way at some point or another. Good luck.
