Fear of Flying....
Discussion
Hello,
Are you a nervous flyer? If so, I would really appreciate a couple of minutes of your time.
I am doing some research on the fear of flying and I would love to hear some real world examples of how it affects people.
There no forms or long winded surveys to complete. I would just like you to drop me a pm explaining how this fear makes you feel including how long before the flight do you start to get nervous (e.g. when the flights are booked, arriving at the airport, boarding the plane) and what are the symptoms (e.g. nausea, butterflies, headache, shortness of breath etc)
Your details will only be used for this research and not shared with any 3rd parties.
mods : I don't think I am breaking any PH rules posting this.
Best regards,
Rod

That and breaking up in mid air at 30,000ft+, sure you'll be unconscious for some of it but you'll likely wake up in time for the final plummet into the ground. Oakey said:

There are reports of Lockerbie victims found to have been scratching at the ground before they died, still strapped in to their seats. Not sure if that helps anyone's fear of flying though.

Don't really have a fear of flying, it's the fact that I'm not in control for a few hours that I don't like. In other words, I can't get off the plane, it makes me feel edgy.
I do find a couple of gin & tonics helps an awful lot, and I can then relax.
I don't follow .. why can't you get off the plane once the flight has finished? Surely that's control back in your hands!I do find a couple of gin & tonics helps an awful lot, and I can then relax.

No fear but I don't like turbulence - but these days I don't mind it because my worst ever flight was Jan 2004 going transatlantic US>UK and we took off on an old 767 (was meant to be 777) and it was a night flight. About 20 mins after we got up to the cruise it started to get a bit bumpy and from there on it just got slowly worse. They turned all the lights out about 2 hours in and it was just like being in a washing machine in the dark. The turbulence was so bad about an hour out of the decent even the mrs was throwing up. I managed to keep it together. Landing was crazy, proper roller coaster stuff. I bet the pilots were having a great time. She was still being sick in the taxi on the way home from the airport!! Since this, every flight I have taken has been easy, relaxing and generally quite enjoyable!

"Always sit at the rear of the plane, pilots never knowingly reverse in to mountains" - David Gunson(Ooo, looks like the whole of What Goes Up Must Come Down is now on YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7KbUNzi58wM)
I take Diazepam for flying. Took 8 one time flying from London to Edmonton Canada and couldn't stay awake for the first week of the holiday. Got taken to a strip club first night there by R hr brother in law and I was the only one sat bolt upright fast asleep while a woman did the splits naked standing in front of me

I'm sure all of them were dead before they hit the ground and yes i know all the gory stuff about them being found in trees peoples gardens
More than one survived for a while. Terrible.
Some hit soft ground, feet first, and inserted so far that one of the search team thought he'd found a wig lying on the ground.
Another terrible things was the teams of thieves who tried to collect luggage.
I used to hate flying, and the last couple of days of a holiday were slightly ruined by the fact I knew I was going to have to get on a plane. A couple of years ago I booked several trips close together, so I took about 6flights in 2 months, and after the 4th or so flight I just seemed to get 'fed up' of being scared. Now I even quite like it!
