Boxster 987 Roof
Discussion
Has anyone ever been able to source replacements for the elastic straps that keep the roof tucked in as it is brought into the closed position?
The parts I' on about are attached to a kind of triangular flap which is part of the roof, mine are looking pretty tired and actually snapped when I increased the tension on them to get the roof to tuck in as it should, they are back in place now but on borrowed time I suspect.
Local OPC said they aren't available separately, I wondered if anyone has had any more luck before I buy some elastic and make replacements.
Cheers,
Nigel

Search on boxa.net There are several users who have sourced and sewn their own for literally pennies and equally some others who have used a roof specialist or trimmer to do the work. The parts I' on about are attached to a kind of triangular flap which is part of the roof, mine are looking pretty tired and actually snapped when I increased the tension on them to get the roof to tuck in as it should, they are back in place now but on borrowed time I suspect.

I replaced mine with new elastic bought on eBay, cut the old one away, attached the roof end on to the new piece with a cable tie and then stapled the other end on to the stub, no need to sew anything, tension the new strap by shortening the cable tie takes about 2 mins and costs pennies.
Thanks for the replies, got some elastic on order from ebay, I can get by with a needle and thread so fingers crossed, getting at the tension screwith is a pain especially if you have big hands!
The whole design is poor in my opinion, I'm sure a spring and cable arrangement would be longer lasting.

The elastic that is used is not normal. The stuff you can buy off the shelf is just not strong enough. Where are you based . I fit and repair hoods and fit for Porsche uk main dealers. I can replace them for you.
Not too sure about that.Edited by hollydog on Thursday 17th November 11:34
Mine has been fitted for over a year and has worked perfectly and many others have repaired their own as well
