Moving out of law. What to do?
Discussion
Retrain as a Barrista? It would mean a small alteration to the business cards, but not much?
On a serious note, is there an opportunity to shift focus within the profession, rather than throw the whole core skills bit out of the window? I.e. shift from commercial to family, or criminal?

Perhaps a bit further down the line but I have seen a smattering of employment lawyers who have moved across to work in-house or in the HR field either, most often specialising in the Industrial/Employee/Employment Relations discipline. These functions and roles tend to exist in very large businesses with big numbers of employees, think BA etc, and where the industry has some exposure to Trade Unions/collective bargaining etc. By default this often means manual/service-led roles.

A mate did law > waiter > marketing Normandy tourism in the UK > house renovations > renewable power projects and hired car driver.
Commercial legal stuff would have been a bigger money spinner, and seemed like a good idea. Articled at a big firm, offered excellent position in their commercial practice ... after some serious soul-searching, decided it was not something he wanted to do.

Fed up working in law, trained as a barrister and have been working in family law since.
Sick of the culture, but what else can I do?
heheh was in simlar shoes as a solictor and wife as well. Sick of the culture, but what else can I do?
We bought out a letting agency 20+ yrs ago. A lot of law still used for work now plus the added benefit of knowing how far you can push things or when to make a stand if you know you are correct. We both make way more now then we ever could as solicitors. (wife was family/medical negligence - I mished about with wills/probate and conveyancing. soul destroying )
The work has its good and boring bits like most jobs but overall enjoy it.
Commercial negotiation? Linked to law but a bunch of different skills and a good understanding of the law would be a massive asset. Range of clients, you could be in house or at a specialist. Reasonable hours and the money is ok.
If you want a different life challenge, internal legal counsel for a major charity/NGO/university?

Mate of mine had a similar trajectory and similar issues. Moved into charity law and never looked back.Commercial legal stuff would have been a bigger money spinner, and seemed like a good idea.
